About the Foundation

The Polish-American Freedom Foundation was established in the US by the Polish-American Enterprise Fund. In 2000 PAFF began its operations and opened the Representative Office in Poland. The Foundation’s goal is to support the development of civil society, democracy and market economy in Poland, including efforts to equalize opportunities for personal and social development, as well as to support the transformation processes in other countries of Central and Eastern Europe.

A conference within the framework of the Third Age Universities Program will be held in Katowice from October 20th to 23rd, 2010.

Flood Relief Program – Help has already reached schools and libraries

Twenty-eight schools and libraries in small towns and villages, which have suffered because of the flood, have been granted financial assistance totaling more than PLN 360,000 in the first round of the Flood Relief Program. The application deadline for the second round has been extended until July 21st.

It was a decade ago that the Polish-American Freedom Foundation first launched its activities. A jubilee gathering was held in Warsaw to mark the occasion. It was highlighted by the presence of distinguished guests: Parliamentary Speaker and Acting President Bronisław Komorowski, Prime Minister Donald Tusk , Ministers as well as American astronauts visiting Poland at the invitation of the Foundation and the U.S. Embassy. Among approximately 300 guests, there were managers of PAFF programs and many other people important to the Foundation.

Wiesława Kowalska named 2009 Civic Leader of the Year

Wiesława Kowalska of Pyzdry, a graduate of the PAFF Leaders Program, has been honored with the title of 2009 Civic Leader of the Year. The competition, which promotes individuals working for the common good and the organizations supporting them, is organized by Newsweek Polska. Its main partner is the Polish-American Freedom Foundation, and its substantive partner is the Academy for the Development of Philanthropy in Poland.

American astronauts visit Poland

From May 9th to 14th, the crew of an American space shuttle visited over a dozen localities in Poland to meet with school-age children and teenagers. It was the first time Poland had been visited by nearly the entire crew of a space shuttle that had been in outer space a mere several weeks earlier. The astronauts had been invited by the U.S. Embassy and the Polish-American Freedom Foundation celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

Attention secondary-school graduates! PLN 500 a month scholarships, paid out over a 10-month period, await you during the 2010/11 academic year. If you come from a rural village or small town, have scored high scholastically and have a low income, then apply to the program. The application deadline is August 13.
